Author’s note

This work is an experiment in connecting the four canonical Gospels into one narrative. The content of the work consists only of words and phrases found in the four Gospels; consequently the resulting text is entirely assembled from the canonical Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Hence its name: “United Gospel”. As a source material, we have used the King James Version of the Bible. In some cases, explanatory words were added for clarity, even though they are not found in the King James Version; such words are in brackets.

To align the four Gospels, the tables of synoptic parallels were used. The alignment was based on the Gospel Synopsis from the Orthodox Bible, which reproduces a related publication of the Moscow Patriarchate (Bible. Moscow: Russian Bible Society, 2000) In some cases, the comparison was made based the table borrowed from the Belgian edition of the Holy Scriptures (Bible. Brussels: Life with God, 1983). It is worth noting that, for the goals mentioned above, none of the two tables were acceptable “as is”, for a number of reasons. In this respect, the interpretation of the Gospel narrative about the resurrection of Jesus Christ proved to be the most critical. To solve the apparent conflict, we have used the sequence from the Harmony of the Gospels, quoted in Seraphim Slobodsky’s “The Law of God” (“The Law of God for Families and Schools”. Jordanville: Holy Trinity Monastery, 1967). Based on the analysis of the above mentioned sources, a new table of synoptic parallels was created according to which the following “United Gospel” was drafted.

While working on the “United Gospel”, the issue of chronology was something we could not ignore. This meant not only determining the order of certain events but also their dating. To solve problem with a satisfactory result, we had to made chonological calculations all over again. Such a complex approach to dating of the Gospel events also helped to clarify a number of theological issues and resolve certain problems related to the New Testament Bible studies. For instance, it was clearly seen that Lk 6:1 talks about Pentecost, not Easter.

The above mentioned calculations with commentaries can be found in my book “Biblical Chronology”.

United Gospel

UG 1. Prologue (Mk 1:1; Lk 1:1—4; Jn 1:1—18)

1:1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us, (Lk 1:1)

1:2 Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word; (Lk 1:2)

1:3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus, (Lk 1:3)

1:4 That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed. (Lk 1:4)

1:5 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. (Mk 1:1)

1:6 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (Jn 1:1)

1:7 The same was in the beginning with God. (Jn 1:2)

UG 3. Message for Zacharias about the birth of John the Baptist (Lk 1:5—25)

3:1 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth. (Lk 1:5)

3:2 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. (Lk 1:6)

3:3 And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years. (Lk 1:7)

3:4 And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his course, (Lk 1:8)

3:5 According to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord. (Lk 1:9)

3:6 And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense. (Lk 1:10)

3:7 And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. (Lk 1:11)

3:8 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. (Lk 1:12)

3:9 But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John. (Lk 1:13)

3:10 And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth. (Lk 1:14)

3:11 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb. (Lk 1:15)

UG 4. Message for the Virgin Mary (Lk 1:26—38)

4:1 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, (Lk 1:26)

4:2 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. (Lk 1:27)

4:3 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. (Lk 1:28)

4:4 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. (Lk 1:29)

4:5 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. (Lk 1:30)

4:6 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. (Lk 1:31)

4:7 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: (Lk 1:32)

4:8 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. (Lk 1:33)

4:9 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? (Lk 1:34)

4:10 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. (Lk 1:35)

UG 5. The Virgin Mary in the house of Elisabeth (Lk 1:39—56)

5:1 And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda; (Lk 1:39)

5:2 And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth. (Lk 1:40)

5:3 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: (Lk 1:41)

5:4 And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. (Lk 1:42)

5:5 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? (Lk 1:43)

5:6 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. (Lk 1:44)

5:7 And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord. (Lk 1:45)

5:8 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, (Lk 1:46)

5:9 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. (Lk 1:47)

UG 6. The birth of John the Baptist (Lk 1:57—58)

6:1 Now Elisabeth’s full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son. (Lk 1:57)

6:2 And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her. (Lk 1:58)

UG 7. Circumcision of John the Baptist. Stay in the desert (Lk 1:59—80)

7:1 And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father. (Lk 1:59)

7:2 And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John. (Lk 1:60)

7:3 And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name. (Lk 1:61)

7:4 And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called. (Lk 1:62)

7:5 And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all. (Lk 1:63)

7:6 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God. (Lk 1:64)

7:7 And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea. (Lk 1:65)

7:8 And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him. (Lk 1:66)

7:9 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying, (Lk 1:67)

7:10 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people, (Lk 1:68)

7:11 And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David; (Lk 1:69)

7:12 As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began: (Lk 1:70)

7:13 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; (Lk 1:71)

7:14 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; (Lk 1:72)

7:16 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, (Lk 1:74)

7:17 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life. (Lk 1:75)

7:18 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; (Lk 1:76)

7:19 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, (Lk 1:77)

7:20 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, (Lk 1:78)

7:21 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. (Lk 1:79)

7:22 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel. (Lk 1:80)

UG 8. Message for Joseph about Jesus (Mt 1:18—25a)

8:1 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. (Mt 1:18)

8:2 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. (Mt 1:19)

8:3 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. (Mt 1:20)

8:4 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. (Mt 1:21)

8:5 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, (Mt 1:22)

8:6 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. (Mt 1:23)

8:7 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: (Mt 1:24)

8:8 And not knew her. (Mt 1:25a)

UG 9. The nativity of Jesus Christ (Mt 1:25b; Lk 2:1—7)

9:1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (Lk 2:1)

9:2 And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria. (Lk 2:2)

9:3 (And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.) (Lk 2:3)

9:4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) (Lk 2:4)

9:5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. (Lk 2:5)

9:6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. (Lk 2:6)

9:7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, (Mt 1:25b; Lk 2:7)

9:8 And wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. (Lk 2:7)

UG 10. Message for the shepherds (Lk 2:8—14)

10:1 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. (Lk 2:8)

10:2 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. (Lk 2:9)

10:3 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. (Lk 2:10)

10:4 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. (Lk 2:11)

10:5 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. (Lk 2:12)

10:6 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, (Lk 2:13)

10:7 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. (Lk 2:14)

UG 11. Worship of the shepherds (Lk 2:15—20)

11:1 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. (Lk 2:15)

11:2 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. (Lk 2:16)

11:3 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. (Lk 2:17)

11:4 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. (Lk 2:18)

11:5 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. (Lk 2:19)

11:6 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. (Lk 2:20)

UG 12. Circumcision and naming of the name Jesus (Mt 1:25c; Lk 2:21)

12:1 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, (Mt 1:25c; Lk 2:21)

12:2 Which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb. (Lk 2:21)

UG 13. The presentation of Jesus in the temple (Lk 2:22—38)

13:1 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord; (Lk 2:22)

13:2 (As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;) (Lk 2:23)

13:3 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons. (Lk 2:24)

13:4 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. (Lk 2:25)

13:5 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. (Lk 2:26)

13:6 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, (Lk 2:27)

13:7 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, (Lk 2:28)

UG 14. Adoration of the wise men (Mt 2:1—12)

14:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, (Mt 2:1)

14:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. (Mt 2:2)

14:3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. (Mt 2:3)

19:2 Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the Baptist, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness of Judaea. (Mt 3:1; Lk 3:2)

19:3 In those days John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. (Mt 3:1; Mk 1:4; Lk 3:3)

19:4 And he came into all the country about Jordan (Lk 3:3)

19:5 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. (Mt 3:2)

19:6 As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. (Mk 1:2)

21:4 And when the tempter came to him, the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. (Mt 4:3; Lk 4:3)

21:5 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. (Mt 4:4; Lk 4:4)

21:6 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them in a moment of time. (Mt 4:8; Lk 4:5)

21:7 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. (Mt 4:9; Lk 4:6)

21:8 If thou therefore wilt fall down and worship me, all shall be thine. (Mt 4:9; Lk 4:7)

21:9 Then Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. (Mt 4:10; Lk 4:8)

21:10 And the devil brought him to holy city Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, (Mt 4:5; Lk 4:9)

21:12 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee, to keep thee: (Mt 4:6; Lk 4:10)

UG 23. The first disciples of Jesus Christ (Jn 1:35—51)

23:1 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; (Jn 1:35)

23:2 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God! (Jn 1:36)

23:3 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. (Jn 1:37)

23:4 Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou? (Jn 1:38)

23:5 He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour. (Jn 1:39)

23:6 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. (Jn 1:40)

23:7 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. (Jn 1:41)

23:8 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone [Peter]. (Jn 1:42)

23:9 The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me. (Jn 1:43)

23:10 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. (Jn 1:44)

23:11 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. (Jn 1:45)

27:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? (Jn 3:4)

27:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (Jn 3:5)

27:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. (Jn 3:6)

UG 30. The shut up of John the Baptist in prison (Mt 14:3—5; Mk 6:17—20; Lk 3:19—20)

30:1 But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip’s wife, for he had married her, and for all the evils which Herod had done, (Mt 14:3; Mk 6:17; Lk 3:19)

30:2 Added yet this above all, that himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him, and shut up John in prison. (Mt 14:3; Mk 6:17; Lk 3:20)

30:3 For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife. (Mt 14:4; Mk 6:18)

30:4 Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not: (Mk 6:19)

30:5 For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly. (Mk 6:20)

30:6 And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet. (Mt 14:5)

UG 31. Return to Galilee. The beginning of the gospel sermon (Mt 4:12; Mk 1:14—15; Lk 4:14—15; Jn 4:1—3)

31:1 When therefore the Lord knew that John was cast into prison, [and] how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, (Mt 4:12; Mk 1:14; Jn 4:1)

UG 32. Conversation with the Samaritan woman (Jn 4:4—42)

32:1 And he must needs go through Samaria. (Jn 4:4)

32:2 Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. (Jn 4:5)

32:3 Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. (Jn 4:6)

32:4 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. (Jn 4:7)

32:5 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) (Jn 4:8)

32:6 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. (Jn 4:9)

32:7 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. (Jn 4:10)

32:8 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? (Jn 4:11)

32:9 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? (Jn 4:12)

32:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: (Jn 4:13)

32:11 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. (Jn 4:14)

32:12 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw. (Jn 4:15)

32:13 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither. (Jn 4:16)

32:14 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: (Jn 4:17)

32:15 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly. (Jn 4:18)

32:16 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. (Jn 4:19)

32:17 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. (Jn 4:20)

32:18 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. (Jn 4:21)

32:19 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. (Jn 4:22)

32:20 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. (Jn 4:23)

32:21 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (Jn 4:24)

32:22 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. (Jn 4:25)

32:23 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he. (Jn 4:26)

32:24 And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her? (Jn 4:27)

32:25 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, (Jn 4:28)

32:26 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? (Jn 4:29)

32:27 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him. (Jn 4:30)

32:28 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat. (Jn 4:31)

32:29 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of. (Jn 4:32)

32:30 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat? (Jn 4:33)

32:31 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. (Jn 4:34)

32:32 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. (Jn 4:35)

32:33 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. (Jn 4:36)

32:34 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. (Jn 4:37)

32:35 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours. (Jn 4:38)

32:36 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. (Jn 4:39)

32:39 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world. (Jn 4:42)

UG 33. The coming of Jesus Christ to Cana is Galilean. Healing of the son of a capernaum courtier (Jn 4:43—54)

33:1 Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee. (Jn 4:43)

33:2 For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country. (Jn 4:44)

33:3 Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast. (Jn 4:45)

33:4 So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. (Jn 4:46)

33:5 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. (Jn 4:47)

33:6 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. (Jn 4:48)

33:7 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die. (Jn 4:49)

33:8 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. (Jn 4:50)

33:9 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth. (Jn 4:51)

33:10 Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. (Jn 4:52)

33:11 So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house. (Jn 4:53)

33:12 This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee. (Jn 4:54)

UG 34. The preaching of Jesus Christ in the Nazareth synagogue (Lk 4:16—30)

34:1 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. (Lk 4:16)

34:2 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, (Lk 4:17)

34:3 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, (Lk 4:18)

34:4 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. (Lk 4:19)

34:5 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. (Lk 4:20)

34:6 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. (Lk 4:21)

34:7 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph’s son? (Lk 4:22)

34:8 And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country. (Lk 4:23)

34:9 And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country. (Lk 4:24)

34:10 But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land; (Lk 4:25)

34:11 But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow. (Lk 4:26)

34:12 And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian. (Lk 4:27)

34:13 And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, (Lk 4:28)

34:14 And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong. (Lk 4:29)

34:15 But he passing through the midst of them went his way. (Lk 4:30)

UG 35. Settlement and preaching in Capernaum (Mt 4:13—17; Mk 1:21a, 22; Lk 4:31—32)

35:1 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, a city of Galilee, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim: (Mt 4:13; Mk 1:21a; Lk 4:31)

35:2 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, (Mt 4:14)

35:3 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; (Mt 4:15)

35:4 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. (Mt 4:16)

35:5 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. (Mt 4:17)

35:6 And taught them on the sabbath days. (Lk 4:31)

35:7 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power, he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes. (Mk 1:22; Lk 4:32)

UG 36. The Apostleship of Peter, Andrew, James and John (Mt 4:18—22; Mk 1:16—20; Lk 5:1—11)

36:1 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, [called] the sea of Galilee, (Mt 4:18; Mk 1:16; Lk 5:1)

36:2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. (Lk 5:2)

36:3 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. (Mt 4:18; Mk 1:16)

36:4 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. (Lk 5:3)

36:5 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. (Lk 5:4)

36:6 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. (Lk 5:5)

36:7 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. (Lk 5:6)

36:8 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. (Lk 5:7)

36:9 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. (Lk 5:8)

36:10 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: (Lk 5:9)

36:11 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not. (Lk 5:10)

36:12 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. (Mt 4:19; Mk 1:17; Lk 5:10)

36:13 And when they had brought their ships to land, straightway left their nets, they forsook all, and followed him. (Mt 4:20; Mk 1:18; Lk 5:11)

36:14 And when he had gone a little further thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. (Mt 4:21; Mk 1:19)

36:15 And straightway he called them. (Mt 4:21; Mk 1:20)

36:16 And they immediately left the ship and their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him. (Mt 4:22; Mk 1:20)

UG 37. The healing of the demoniac in the Capernaum synagogue (Mk 1:21b, 23—28; Lk 4:33—37)

37:1 And straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught. (Mk 1:21b)

37:2 And there was in their synagogue a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice, (Mk 1:23; Lk 4:33)

37:3 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. (Mk 1:24; Lk 4:34)

37:4 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. (Mk 1:25; Lk 4:35)

37:5 And when the unclean spirit [of the] devil had thrown him in the midst, torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him, and hurt him not. (Mk 1:26; Lk 4:35)

37:6 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority and power commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him, and come out. (Mk 1:27; Lk 4:36)

37:7 And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee. (Mk 1:28; Lk 1:37)

UG 38. Healing of Simon’s mother-in-law (Mt 8:14—15; Mk 1:29—31; Lk 4:38—39)

38:1 And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon Peter and Andrew, with James and John. (Mt 8:14; Mk 1:29; Lk 4:38)

38:2 But Simon’s wife’s mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her. (Mt 8:14; Mk 1:30; Lk 4:38)

38:3 And he came and saw his wife’s mother laid, and sick of a fever. (Mt 8:14; Mk 1:31)

38:4 He stood over her, took her by the hand, lifted her up, and rebuked the fever; and immediately the fever left her, she arose and ministered unto them. (Mt 8:15; Mk 1:31; Lk 4:39)

UG 39. Healing many sick people (Mt 8:16—17; Mk 1:32—34; Lk 4:40—41)

39:1 And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him many that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils. (Mt 8:16; Mk 1:32; Lk 4:40)

39:2 And all the city was gathered together at the door. (Mk 1:33)

39:3 And he healed all that were sick of divers diseases, laiding his hands on every one of them. (Mt 8:16; Mk 1:34; Lk 4:40)

39:6 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses. (Mt 8:17)

UG 40. Evangelism in the Galilee (Mt 4:23—25; Mk 1:35—39; Lk 4:42—44)

40:1 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary desert place, and there prayed. (Mk 1:35; Lk 4:42)

40:2 And when it was day, the people sought him. (Mk 1:37; Lk 4:42)

40:3 Simon and they that were with him followed after him. (Mk 1:36; Lk 4:42)

40:4 And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee, that he should not depart from them. (Mk 1:37; Lk 4:42)

40:5 And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent, for therefore came I forth. (Mk 1:38; Lk 4:43)

40:6 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people, and cast out devils. (Mt 4:23; Mk 1:39; Lk 4:44)

40:7 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them. (Mt 4:24)

40:8 And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan. (Mt 4:25)

UG 41. Healing the leper (Mt 8:2—4; Mk 1:40—45; Lk 5:12—16)

41:1 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, there came a leper to him, worshipped him, and kneeling down to him, beseeching him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. (Mt 8:2; Mk 1:40; Lk 5:12)

41:2 And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. (Mt 8:3; Mk 1:41; Lk 5:13)

41:3 And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed. (Mt 8:3; Mk 1:42; Lk 5:13)

41:4 And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away; (Mk 1:43)

41:5 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. (Mt 8:4; Mk 1:44; Lk 5:14)

41:6 But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to blaze abroad the matter. (Mk 1:45)

41:7 But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities. (Lk 5:15)

41:8 Insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without. And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed. And they came to him from every quarter. (Mk 1:45; Lk 5:16)

UG 42. Healing of the paralytic in Capernaum (Mt 9:1—8; Mk 2:1—12; Lk 5:17—26)

42:1 After some days he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own city, and again he entered into Capernaum; and it was noised that he was in the house. (Mt 9:1; Mk 2:1)

42:2 And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them. (Mk 2:2)

42:3 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them. (Lk 5:17)

42:4 And, behold, four men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: (Mk 2:3; Lk 5:18)

42:5 And they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him. (Lk 5:18)

42:6 And when they could not find by what way they might bring a man sick of the palsy with his couch in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay through the tiling into the midst before Jesus. (Mt 9:2; Mk 2:4; Lk 5:19)

42:7 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, be of good cheer, thy sins are forgiven thee. (Mt 9:2; Mk 2:5; Lk 5:20)

42:8 But there were certain of the scribes and the Pharisees sitting there, and began to reason, saying within themselves, (Mt 9:3; Mk 2:6; Lk 5:21)

42:9 Who is this? Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only? (Mt 9:3; Mk 2:7; Lk 5:21)

42:10 And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said answering unto them, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? (Mt 9:4; Mk 2:8; Lk 5:22)

42:11 For whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? (Mt 9:5; Mk 2:9; Lk 5:23)

42:12 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) (Mt 9:6; Mk 2:10; Lk 5:24)

42:13 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. (Mt 9:6; Mk 2:11; Lk 5:24)

42:14 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all, and departed to his house, glorifying God. (Mt 9:7; Mk 2:12; Lk 5:25)

42:15 But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day, we never saw it on this fashion. (Mt 9:8; Mk 2:12; Lk 5:26)

43:2 And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a publican, named Levi Matthew the son of Alphaeus, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me. (Mt 9:9; Mk 2:14; Lk 5:27)

43:3 And he left all, rose up, and followed him. (Mt 9:9; Mk 2:14; Lk 5:28)

43:4 And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: and it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him. (Mt 9:10; Mk 2:15; Lk 5:29)

43:5 And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they murmured against his disciples, saying, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners? (Mt 9:11; Mk 2:16; Lk 5:30)

43:6 But when Jesus heard that, he answering said unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick, (Mt 9:12; Mk 2:17; Lk 5:31)

43:7 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: (Mt 9:13)

43:8 For I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. (Mt 9:13; Mk 2:17; Lk 5:32)

UG 44. Answer to the disciples of John on fasting (Mt 9:14—17; Mk 2:18—22; Lk 5:33—39)

44:1 And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thy disciples fast not, but thine eat and drink? (Mt 9:14; Mk 2:18; Lk 5:33)

44:2 And Jesus said unto them, Can ye make the children of the bridechamber fast? Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. (Mt 9:15; Mk 2:19; Lk 5:34)

44:3 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days. (Mt 9:15; Mk 2:20; Lk 5:35)

51:83 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! (Mt 6:23)

51:84 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. (Mt 6:24)

51:85 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? (Mt 6:25)

51:86 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? (Mt 6:26)

51:87 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? (Mt 6:27)

51:88 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: (Mt 6:28)

51:89 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. (Mt 6:29)

51:90 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? (Mt 6:30)

51:91 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (Mt 6:31)

51:92 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. (Mt 6:32)

51:93 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Mt 6:33)

51:94 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. (Mt 6:34)

51:95 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: (Mt 7:1; Lk 6:37)

51:96 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged. (Mt 7:2)

51:97 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. (Mt 7:2; Lk 6:38)

51:98 And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch? (Lk 6:39)

51:99 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master. (Lk 6:40)

51:100 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? (Mt 7:3; Lk 6:41)

51:102 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye. (Mt 7:5; Lk 6:42)

51:110 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: (Mt 7:13)

51:111 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (Mt 7:14)

51:112 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. (Mt 7:15)

51:113 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? (Mt 7:16)

51:114 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. (Mt 7:17)

51:115 For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. (Mt 7:18; Lk 6:43)

51:116 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes. (Lk 6:44)

51:117 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. (Mt 7:19)

51:127 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand without a foundation: (Mt 7:26; Lk 6:49)

51:128 And the rain descended, and the floods came, which the stream did beat vehemently, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and immediately it fell: and the ruin of that house was great. (Mt 7:27; Lk 6:49)

UG 52. Healing the centurion’s servant in Capernaum (Mt 8:1, 5—13; Lk 7:1—10)

52:1 Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, (Lk 7:1)

52:2 He was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. (Mt 8:1)

52:3 And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die. (Lk 7:2)

52:4 And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant, (Mt 8:5; Lk 7:3)

52:5 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. (Mt 8:6)

52:6 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, (Mt 8:5; Lk 7:1)

52:7 They came to Jesus, [and] besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this: (Mt 8:5; Lk 7:4)

52:8 For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue. (Lk 7:5)

52:9 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. (Mt 8:7)

52:10 Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof: (Mt 8:8; Lk 7:6)

52:11 Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed. (Mt 8:8; Lk 7:7)

52:12 For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. (Mt 8:9; Lk 7:8)

52:13 When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. (Mt 8:10; Lk 7:9)

52:14 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. (Mt 8:11)

52:15 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Mt 8:12)

52:16 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour. (Mt 8:13)

52:17 And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick. (Lk 7:10)

UG 53. Resurrection of the widow’s son in Nain (Lk 7:11—17)

53:1 And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people. (Lk 7:11)

53:2 Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. (Lk 7:12)

53:3 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. (Lk 7:13)

53:4 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. (Lk 7:14)

53:5 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. (Lk 7:15)

53:6 And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people. (Lk 7:16)

53:7 And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the region round about. (Lk 7:17)

UG 54. The message of Jesus Christ about himself and John the Baptist before the disciples of John (Mt 11:2—19; Lk 7:18—35)

54:1 Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, [for] the disciples of John shewed him of all these things, (Mt 11:2; Lk 7:18)

54:2 And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, (Mt 11:2; Lk 7:19)

54:3 saying unto him, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another? (Mt 11:3; Lk 7:19)

54:4 When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another? (Lk 7:20)

54:5 And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight. (Lk 7:21)

54:6 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: (Mt 11:4; Lk 7:22)

54:7 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. (Mt 11:5; Lk 7:22)

54:8 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me. (Mt 11:6; Lk 7:23)

54:9 And when the messengers of John were departed, Jesus began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind? (Mt 11:7; Lk 7:24)

54:10 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings’ courts. (Mt 11:8; Lk 7:25)

54:11 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet. (Mt 11:9; Lk 7:26)

54:12 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. (Mt 11:10; Lk 7:27)

54:13 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he. (Mt 11:11; Lk 7:28)
