The secret rule of Numbers transformation
Once, when Max and I were traveling around the country of Spanish Tenses, we settled at one of the central hotels of the city called Presente De Indicativo.
The atmosphere there was very pleasant and homely, at nine o’clock in the morning the owners of this hotel brought the purely English breakfast to our room.
And once, during one of those breakfasts, a familiar fairy flew into our place, greeted us and asked, tasting delicious Spanish hot chocolate and cake:
— Well, how do you like our local sights? How many of them have you managed to see?
— OK, — Max replied enthusiastically, — we have already visited the mysterious Palace of Negative Sentences, and now we know its secret. We have been on the island of the Princess of Interrogative Sentences.
«We’ve even managed to attend the reception of the Prince of the Question to the Subject,» I added proudly.
— Well, it’s not everything! — the fairy De Indefinido said mysteriously. — It looks like you haven’t been to the Magic Numbers castle and you don’t know its secret…
— In fact, we have not been there yet, miss, but of course we will correct this error. Thanks for the advice!
— Not at all, I’m always happy to help lovely and adorable travelers! — said the fairy and evaporated.
The next day Max and I set off, we needed to visit this mysterious castle.
— I wonder what could be so magical in the ordinary numbers. — Max said thoughtfully and counted in Spanish from one to twelve (then he didn’t know how to count more): — Uno, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco, seis, siete, ocho, nueve, diez, once, doce…
And at this very moment an unknown fairy flew towards us and noticed in a severe voice, looking closely at Max:
— You have no right, sir, to say such terrible and illegal things in the territory of the Castle of Magic Numbers!»
— Really, what illegal or terrible thing have I said? — he answered surprised.
— You, sir, had the imprudence to pronounce the forbidden word «ordinary». But at the entrance of this territory there is a gold plaque, in which it’s clearly written with blackened gold over non-blackened gold «Castle of Magic Numbers»!
— Sorry, madam, — Max replied confused, — from now on I will be more careful in choosing the expressions.
— That’s great! — nodded the fairy with approval.
