Vasya Iko — «a wind of gods»

In the village Dzerzhinsk Krasnoyarsk region in post-war years there lived the former Japanese pilot suicide bomber whom locals named on the Russian harmony Vasya.

During the Great Patriotic War pilots — suicide bombers were generally used for destruction of surface ships of the opponent. According to the American sources, during World War II of the kamikaze sank 45 and put about 300 fighting courts out of action.

Vasya Iko was born in Japan in February, 1926 Was called and served in the Air Force 1 years and 5 months. In the last flight it rose in August, 1945 — it had a task to dive with killing freight on strategic object in the USSR.

However in air in the Japanese soldier internal fight began: between a debt and fear of death, between the received installation and common sense. I won against a self-preservation instinct — Vasya put the plane in the Soviet airfield.

Court. Captivity. Three years in the Siberian camps. Then the Soviet authorities defined a place of the settlement of the Japanese — the regional center Dzerzhinsk Krasnoyarsk Krai.

Love to the Russian women

In Siberia Vasya grew roots quickly enough: hardworking and persistent, without effort I learned Russian and I settled the stove-setter on a local boiler room. The Japanese and the foreman of construction crew managed to work. According to the former colleagues, I was very competent expert. Home Vasya wasn’t torn — why if there he was waited for certain by the death penalty? Vasya Iko married the Russian girl in 1952. Together lived 35 years, gave birth to the three daughter, those to them 6 grandsons.

Now to Japanese Vasya’s spouse of 79 years, she lives alone and conducts simple subsidiary farm. Says that about the Japanese past of the late husband doesn’t know anything.

— In family life he was the excellent owner and the careful father. One had a shortcoming — strongly for the Russian women was eager. As in the people speak, still that «walker». Long time it had a mistress, even the daughter to her managed «to cook up»! — telling about this fact, the granny tastefully swore.

According to the spouse, for many years Vasya Iko achieved permission to visit to Japan for a meeting with relatives. Only in the late eighties it could meet the sister. It was succeeded to stay for a while in the country of the Rising Sun only 6 days.

As Vasya’s wife was expressed, «he had to scram from there carelessly». That he worried then what feelings had, it is difficult to tell. After the end of war 61 years passed. Time erased many contradictions. For those who sent it to death, he remained the traitor, the deserter. For us, Russians, he is the deserter who prevented destructions and death of people.
